4X & 12X SFF8470 Cable Assemblies

Meritec offers a comprehensive line of cable assemblies to support InfiniBand architecture specifications at Single, Double and Quad Data Rates and other industry standard interfaces for high speed data transfer applications that include 10G Ethernet-CX4, 40G Ethernet-CX4, 10G FibreChannel, Serial ATA (SATA), Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), and 10G Myrinet.
 
These cables are also suitable for PCI-Express and Serial RapidIO interconnect applications. Meritec’s offering supports channel-based switched fabric IO technology and industry standards for continuous flow serial or parallel link computing. Data rates of 3.2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 17, and 20G per lane are achievable at various lengths.
 
Meritec’s 4X and 12X Direct Attach Connector technology is based on the direct attach of wire to contact methodology, where the signal wires are attached directly to the connector’s contacts. Eliminating the need for an interstitial printed circuit board avoids the undesirable effects the PCB can have on the signal integrity at higher data rates.
 
Meritec’s Cable technology is based on optimizing the performance of the cable assembly by offering the optimum wire gage and cable construction for the specific length and data rate required. The development of the cable has afforded Meritec the luxury of specifying all aspects of the cable construction that has resulted in a cable of superior performance and matched to the superior performance of the Direct Attach connector. The direct attach termination method requires the use of the Meritec developed cable construction for processing.
 
Cable is currently available in Low Smoke Zero Halogen, Meritec’s default cable, and PVC constructions. Both types of cable are available in 24, 26 and 28 AWG. Meritec also offers the 30 AWG in the LSZH construction.

NX+ Test Suite & Board Mount Receptacle

NX+ Test Suite Infiniband / CX4

Meritec Infiniband® (IB) Test Suites allow for high bandwidth testing and performance validation of IB copper cable assemblies. The test boards utilize the highest quality PCB materials and components allowing for smooth impedance profiling and minimal crosstalk through the entire signal path.

The IB Board Receptacle, SFF-8473 Standard Pending, utilized on the Test Boards is a modified SFF-8470, backward compatible receptacle with a modified footprint for improved performance.
 

 NX+ Board Mount Receptacle

Meritec’s NX+ brand product family includes PCB surface mount, SFF-8470 and SFF-8473 IO connector receptacles that mate with all SFF-8470 cable assemblies and offer improved crosstalk performed at InfiniBand 5G DDR, 10G QDR, and the developing 20G EDR data rates.

4X Low-Profile / Belly-to-Belly

This new Meritec 4X cable assembly offers a unique profile that will allow for a stackable interconnection of two 4X cable assemblies to two receptacles – one on top of the other or belly-to-belly – in a 1U form factor chassis. Meritec’s cable assemblies continue to feature their Direct Attach technology which makes their industry leading electrical performance possible.
 
These cable assemblies support Infiniband® electrical specifications at single, double and quad data rates and other industry standard interfaces for high speed data transfer applications that include Ethernet 40G Base-CR4, 10G Ethernet-CX4, 10G FibreChannel, Serial ATA (SATA), Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and 10G Myrinet. Mini-SAS to SAS with LSZH

Meritec’s Mini-SAS (SFF-8088) to SAS (SFF-8470) LSZH cable assemblies support differential pair signaling with low-skew pairs and with shielding for maximum EMI/RFI protection. Meritec’s cable technology allows data rates at 3.0 Gb/s and meets or exceeds SAS-2 requirements. Reduced crosstalk and low insertion loss enhance the scalability.

HSSDC2

Meritec offers a robust HSSDC-2 cable assembly product family. These cable assemblies meet the requirements for ANSI T11 FibreChannel industry standards and InfiniBand Trade Association consortium standards.
 
These twinaxial-based cable assemblies are available for 1.06, 2.125, 4.25Gbs and developing 8.5Gbs FibreChannel 150ohm links as well as 2.5 and 5Gbs InfiniBand 100ohm applications. Paddleboard-based cables are available with Meritec engineered passive equalization circuits for better electrical performance and increased cable length options.

4X & 12X Copper Mesh Assembly

Copper Mesh Cable AssemblyThe image shown is typical of a Copper Mesh Assembly, sometimes referred to as a Backplane Extender or simply as a Daisy Chain assembly, using the Meritec 4X or 12X connectors (12X shown). These assemblies eliminate the need to pass point-to-point signals throughout the backplane and can possibly reduce layer count in the backplane. The configurations can range from the lowest level at 1X to highest level at 12X by using either 4X or 12X backshells. Each individual cable length is a 4X cable (three to a 12X backshell). Each backshell can be selectively loaded to accommodate customer specific applications. These assemblies are capable of data rates such as InfiniBand through QDR, CX4, SAS and RapidIO.
