Mold-Tech is a Meritec Company that provides electronic connector engineering, tooling and manufacture solutions. Established in 1984, Mold-Tech services the electronics industry. We have quickly evolved into a full service custom cable assembly house. Our capabilities include the design and manufacture of custom over molds and over molded cable assemblies and the application of “molded-on’ ribbon connectors to flat ribbon cable. Mold-Tech stands alone in the industry with our ability to turn your connector, cable assembly and tooling needs into quality, deliverable products. Our goal is to provide unique and innovative products to our customers, on time and at competitive prices.
Molded solutions for extreme conditions in drilling, mining, medical and telecommunications markets.
The Molded on Concept
The most obvious advantage of the “Molded-On” assemblies is that they are one piece, and therefore inseparable, as opposed to Std IDC “sandwich” style. There are no individual components to come apart or lose or stock to assemble or test or scrap. They are factory tested and ready to install when shipped.
Flat ribbon cable conductor are IDC mass terminated to performed contacts and the and the entire terminated cable end is enclosed in a mold configured as a connector. Hot molten polyester thermoplastic is then injected into the connector mold under intense pressure. the pressurized molten plastic penetrates and fills all the mold cavity spaces while simultaneously engulfing the shouldered portion of the contacts, the cable cut-off end, and the PVC-insulated lead-in portion of the cable itself. The PVC insulation is thermally fused to the body.
The finished part, now an integral single-end assembly, cools immediately and is ejected from the mold. For double ended assembly, the opposite cable end also is IDC mass terminated to the contacts and molded into a connector body. One-piece daisy-chain jumpers are produced by using thru-cable molds that permit any connector body styles to be molded around IDC-mass-terminated contacts anywhere on the cable. Special-configuration one-piece jumpers incorporating any number of connectors – with the same or different body style and sizes – are easily produced to customer specifications with our unique “molded-on” process. In keeping with the “systems approach”, all cable is industry-standard .050in. (1.27mm)
SPECIAL SERVICES AND ASSEMBLIES
When design considerations require custom overmolding to enhance performance, reliability or aesthetics, turn to Mold-Tech. Our designers can work with you from concept through prototype and on to production to develop the custom overmold that solves virtually any design requirements. We can deliver what you want, not just what is available. As soon as you realize that you need an overmold, Mold-Tech’s involvement can produce rewards. Because of our years of experience in producing molds, you will find our insights invaluable when designing your overmold. Insights that can broaden your options, decrease production costs, eliminate design changes or enhance desired attributes. Once the design is finalized, our craftsmen apply their finely honed skills to the task of building your mold accurately and fast.
CUSTOM CABLE ASSEMBLIES AND WIRE HARNESSES
With a heavy investment in state of the art application tooling from several connector manufacturers for several connector designs, Mold-Tech has the equipment and expertise necessary to provide our customers with the proper connector, terminated correctly and most efficiently. Quality is built into your cable assemblies long before they reach your production line. This allows us to supply our customers with a variety of cost effective, high quality cable assemblies. In addition, Mold-Tech has the ability to further customize your cable assemblies with custom labeling, cable marking, connector marking, hot stamping, custom hardware, folding, mass tear, overmolding and custom packaging.
